Help

Search for birds using all or part of English names.  Case is not significant (use upper- or lower-case letters or any combination).  The three examples below will all find the Northern Shrike.  The first example will return 21 possible matches (using the ABA list), the second will return three, and the third will match only the Northern Shrike:

    northern
shrike
northern shrike

Alternatively (and only when using the A.B.A. list), use a standard four-character abbreviation (no wildcards allowed).  Examples:

    NOCA
BCCH
SMEW

Ah, but what about the Northern Shrike? The standard four-letter abbreviation for it (NOSH) is ambiguous (it matches the Northern Shoveler as well).  I use alternate codes for these "collisions."  If you enter the ambiguous code, you will be presented with all of the matching (A.B.A.) species.  Try it:

    NOSH
