Most so-called "guides" use indecipherable terms such as tertials, retrices, coverts, spatulas, and gular region to identify the various parts of a bird. This approach inevitably leads to confusion and frustration for the hapless birder. In our guide, we have chosen to use plain-language terms to simplify this material.
