Thirty-one years is a long time to be in the retail business. Not a bad run, really. But business is bad these days. People create their own signs now. It’s the computers, mostly. Everybody’s an artiste these days. No call for a tradesman; for a man who takes a little pride. Attention to detail ain’t wanted, I guess.
The university wants to raze my little shop? Expand their campus? Let ’em. I’ll take their money. Thankyouverymuch. Pay for me a little vacation. Lay around in Italy for a week, maybe. Drink some wine. Paint.
